King James I Academy is a learning community in which all ages meet to share and develop their talents and to promote mutual respect for all people; whatever their age, gender, ability, background or beliefs.
Staff provide creative and inspirational learning experiences which encourage young people to achieve their full potential and to become intelligent, responsible, productive and caring adults who are well prepared for the challenges of modern society. Under our banner of ‘Learning to Inspire’ students are challenged to be the best version of themselves academically and socially, and our Seven Standards reflect the high expectations we have for students.
As well as consistently achieving the best GCSE Progress Score of all the Bishop Auckland secondary schools in recent years, we are proud to be one of the few remaining schools in County Durham with a Sixth Form. The majority of our Year 11 students continue their education with us in Sixth Form, and a significant proportion go on to study at a variety of universities.
Our Ofsted Inspection from February 2022 judged us as ‘GOOD’ and recognised the value that King James adds to students’ education, whilst also recognising the care and support they receive from dedicated staff within school.
